5 Practical Steps You Can Take Toward Your New Year's Resolutions
Safara Fisher

When the new year comes around, we often come up with elaborate New Year's Resolutions. For the most part, these resolutions don't make it through the first month. Here are some reasonable New Year's Steps to work towards achieving an ultimate resolution.

1. Make your bed in the morning.

This step will work towards your resolution to be more organized. If you make your bed right when you get up, you are less likely to return to it throughout the day. Making your bed is the first little achievement you make during the day; it automatically gives you a more positive and achieving attitude.

2. Make tea with honey instead of dessert.

When you get cravings for sugar late at night, substitute a brownie for a cup of tea. The honey in the tea will satisfy your craving without the health consequences. Make sure the tea is caffeine free so that you will fall asleep after.

3. Call a relative.

Instead of making it your resolution to reach to your entire family, start by calling one family member. You might want to start with your parents or siblings because you are probably more comfortable talking with them over the phone than you are with your uncle or great aunt. Call more relatives from there.

4. Stretch every day.

Giving yourself a good stretch loosens your body and puts you in better shape to workout. You will feel better and more prepared to do cardio activities than you would if you didn't stretch.

5. Get a recycling bin.

Just by adding a recycling bin next to your trash can, you will be more likely to think twice before you through something away.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
