With the New Year quickly approaching, many people are scrambling to write themselves a list of resolutions that they hope to take on throughout the course of the next year. Unfortunately for most, the resolutions that they have in mind often aren't realistic enough to ever accomplish, and they're just diminished to writing on a piece of paper.

Rather than aiming for some far-fetched goals that you may never accomplish, here are 10 practical New Year's resolutions to make this year:

1. Put your mental health first.

2. Put more time into schoolwork and find better methods to study.

3. Develop some new friendships and strengthen the ones you already cherish.

4. Call your parents and siblings at least once a week, even if it's just to tell them you love them.

5. Instead of focusing on losing weight, focus on becoming more body-positive and loving yourself more.

6. Give back to those in need.

7. Truly appreciate everything amazing you have in life.

8. Take a break from social media and take time to appreciate life beyond the screen.

9. Give yourself a break, whether it's taking more down-time or going on vacation.

10. Find a reason to be grateful for life every single day.

When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
