Recently a lot of time and effort has been spent picking out what is wrong with the environment around us and world in general, and I’ll be the first to admit I am guilty of this. It’s so easy to focus on things that are wrong and it is important to address them in order to fix things, but at a point that focus can give negative effect to your life.
However, I was not the first person to realize the effect of all this negativity. A friend and member of my organization, Sebastian Cifuentes, became inspired one day at church and had this realization that we as a community need to love a little more recklessly to put a positive spin on the world around us.
Sebastian wrote a brief passage about his thoughts on this topic and upon hearing it, not only was I immensely impressed by his open-mindedness and excited to hear how our organization had affected him, but I was immediately moved.
His passage was exactly what I needed to hear during my stressful week and that’s why I wanted to share it. I agree with him that we all need to learn to love reckless and believe that this is something everyone would benefit from reading.
“Today I want to talk to you guys about reckless love. Why love you ask? Because love is what makes the Earth spin. Love, I personally believe is the single most important virtue in the world.
Reckless love though. What is that? When you think reckless, you think 100% carefree. You think no rules, no parameters to follow, just completely open concept. This is the way I believe we should love. We should love in manners in which the person receiving that love has no other thought in their mind but think wow, this person in crazy. We should treat others with such delicacy and such passion that we can legitimately turn their day or their life around by simply talking with them.
Love is powerful but it’s also patient and forgiving. It’s important to understand that we may not always get the love we deserve back, but it shouldn’t matter because the only thing we are concerned with is exuding reckless, overwhelming love.
With this mission of radiating a little light through the way we love people, I know can change the atmosphere across this campus, across this state, and across this world. You guys have shown me so much love in the very little time I’ve known y'all, and I hope that y’all will share that gift with every person you encounter today, tomorrow, and the for the rest of your lives.” – Sebastian Cifuentes
