The Christian's Dilemma Of influence

My religious dilemma protecting against the wrong message.

My struggle is this:

The other night, I had a discussion with three people who are close and I trust will not lead me in the wrong direction. The final call was to my sister who helped me completely vet a concept. You see, I wanted to write about a topic; but, the idea was not mine. I saw something that was reposted on Instagram and I wanted the replay the message which was a video in this very article. I felt the message was true and would be well received by all. Well, the conclusion we reached is this: "it is not the message, it is the messenger." And although, I would love to share that one post regarding the need to express love to others. I found, I was experiencing an internal conflict. Why? Because of this: what does that person represent in totality to the way of life God wants us to live? What else is packaged on his/her social media sites, or uttered from his/her tongue? And yes I know we are not to judge and make assumptions about others. We are to live and be the best that we can during our Christian walk. But we must also not appear to condone something that is contrary to God’s word. Influence is a tricky trait that the enemy uses to infiltrate the minds of young and old alike.

My Solution:

What finally hit home for me was this fact "Sometimes it is not the message. It is the messenger." We must be careful and keep our minds guarded. Sometimes something can appear innocent and it is a trap. Remember Jesus’s teachings: "The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have [it] abundantly." John 10:10

So, I will share list my list of thoughts which are outlined below:

I must do a better job and make time for others. SO, I must consider my own actions and complete the items on this list. All listed only require a small amount of time. These things fill my day with joy. They are free and easy to incorporate in day-to-day activities.

1. Sharing words of affirmations such as I love you, great job, compliments and adding a please and a thank you.

2. Spending time helping where needed: cleaning, cooking, or studying with someone.

3. A simple greeting text message of good morning or good night.

4. A passing smile with a pleasant greeting.

5. A quick phone call to simply hear one's voice.

During this time of year, I feel it is important for everyone to pause and do the same. You will never know from initial contact the type of day the person may be having. Kindness helps to ease pain.

Now, consider your own actions or non-actions. What can you do, change, or add to your daily activities that is a gesture or an expression of love for others?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
