Every day is meant to teach us a lesson - it is up to you whether you will take it by the horns.

For The Days You Feel All Alone
Destiny Rasmussen

For some, just getting out of bed every day is the biggest challenge they face. There are times in everyone's lives when they feel like life is too hard, they won't overcome life's newest obstacle or anything else they make themselves believe. But I am here to tell you that none of those things are true. So here are just a few things to remind yourself or just some nice things that you might not have heard in a while.

You are not alone. I know there are many times where this is hard to believe, but you are never truly alone. Whether you are surrounded by family, friends, lovers, pets, colleagues, and more, there is always someone there you can go to and someone that can help when you need it the most. Also, never feel embarrassed or ashamed if you need to reach out for professional assistance. Sometimes this can be difficult, especially for individuals who have trouble accepting they need help or just feel shy about reaching out to a stranger. Talk to whoever you need to in order to feel happy and healthy every day.

You are beautiful just the way you are.

Everything in today's society likes to make us believe, that whether you are a boy, girl, trans, or whatever else you identify as, that if you are not young and active and have the bone structure and makeup skills of a Victoria Secret's model, that you are not beautiful. But that could not be farther from the truth. Everyone in their own skin and bodies are just as beautiful as the next person. Whether the size of your clothes is in the double digits or a size zero, the world does not dictate how beautiful you are or what your definition of health should be. Keep being the amazing person you are and never compare yourself to anybody except the person you want to be.

You will get through the end of the busy week. Especially as a student, it can feel like the end of the week will never come. But trust me, Monday is not that far away from Friday, take each day at a time, and do not ever push yourself past your limits. You are only human and humans need to take breaks.

Not every day is going to be perfect and that is okay. Of course, you will always strive to have a good day and sometimes that can and will not turn out how you expect it to. But that's completely okay. Like the classic movie of "Heathers" once quoted, "If every day of your life was good you wouldn't be human, you would be a game show host." There is nothing wrong with letting your emotions show, it does not make you weak, frail, immature, or anything else you have ever been told. You are strong, and it takes a strong person to conquer through a bad day.

Days are long and challenge us constantly. Every day is meant to teach us a lesson and it is up to you whether you will take it by the horns or stand there with a shivering red flag. You can get through anything, as long as you take care of yourself first and foremost.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
