I feel like I'm giving away my secrets, but it's for the greater good and I haven't done much charity, so here it goes. We've all had those weeks— swamped with Organic Chemistry homework and exams, bludgeoned down by Physics quizzes, (you feel me fellow Pharmacy majors?). All this coursework leaves little to no time for writing or fun, so here are a few topics to make writing a little easier (sometimes all you need is an idea!).
1. Write about a country that is not on anybody's radar— but should be
Do you guys know where this is? Me neither.
Its a picture of Venezuela; which is in utter turmoil right now. The news isn't reporting much about it which creates a lack of awareness. Read this article to learn more.
Anyway, if you find a situation that the mainstream media is avoiding, this is your chance to fill the holes and provide the public with much needed briefings. You never know; maybe you'll go viral!
2. Now This videos
This site is an idea goldmine. They produce short but very easy to understand videos about recent shootings, cute and heartwarming videos, celebrity drama, and everything in between. Use some of these ideas and report your reaction or research more into a video that raises an idea that interests you.
3. Your personal reaction to a news event
In this past week, we've seen far too many shootings. Why do you think this is happening? What is your take on Black Lives Matter?
4. A pattern you see unfolding in news
What is up with 2016 and all the celebrity deaths? What is the Illuminati doing? Is the Illuminati even real? What is the Illuminati?
Why does the mainstream media sometimes report events but not simillar events? Why are we not hearing about Ebola anymore when it was all CNN could talk about for a few months?
What gets reported by the news and what doesn't? Why are some stories more "worthy" than others? Is this the work of the illuminati? (sorry)
5. Argue for the other side of a political topic
Perhaps try to gather ideas for people who believe in the opposite opinion as you. For instance, if you feel strongly about being for gun-control, try to write something about why the other side thinks against it. Or not.
6. Movie/ TV show Reviews
This is easy especially easy if something was really good- or really bad. Review a new movie that recently came out and tell your social circle if they should see it. This is great if you are really into cinematography and know a lot about movies.
7. Something that bothers you
This is really easy. I find words flow more eloquently when I am upset. Talk about the rude math teacher you had in 10th grade, the extremely rude customer at work, how annoying the length of the morning line at Starbucks is. Its a small world; someone will empathize and understand. I know that when I feel upset I prefer to be in the company of other upset people, or miserable in the company of Les Miserables. Plus, its good to put your feelings somewhere.
8. An Influential Person
Again, things tied with emotions are always easier to write about. Perhaps you truly admire the challenges this person has overcome; or how talented and hardworking they are. Write about how they have influenced you to be the person you are today.
9. Why you love ______.
Your dog! Your family! Your hometown! Your college! Your friends!
Chances are people will resonate with this (especially if its about your dog).
