Do you know the benefits of being optimistic? Ask yourself is the glass half empty or half full? Depending on how you just answered that question, will reflect how you view life. This might even affect your health. The definition of positive thinking does not mean that you dig yourself a hole and stick your head in it and ignore life when it gets rough. Positive thinking means that you approach the unpleasant events in a more positive manner. Changing your way of thinking well benefit you in the long run.

The average person's mind is always racing. You know the solution to that? Talking to yourself about these thoughts. Whether these thoughts are positive or negative, it is good to talk to yourself and get these thoughts out. These thoughts can either be positive or negative. Most of the time the thoughts you have are arising from misconceptions that you created in your mind because of the lack of information. The assumptions you make can sometimes make your stress level higher than normal. A good tip to get your thoughts out is to start journaling and write out the possible outcomes.

Do you think more negative or more positive? That is a very important question to ask yourself. This will make you realize if you are pessimistic or an optimist.

Here is a list of what thinking positive can impact your life and overall health:

1.) Increases life span

2.) Lowers depression levels

3.) Lowers levels of distress

4.) Chances of getting a common cold decreases

5.) Better cardiovascular health

6.) Better coping skills when you are dealing with hardships and stress

7.) Improves your mental health

After reading what positive thinking benefits, you want to learn how to turn negative thinking into positive thinking. And guess what? YOU CAN DO IT. Focus on positive aspects of your life. It's really simple and easy. You just have to believe in yourself, however, with that being said, it does take time and practice. Looking at it this way, it's basically creating a new habit. Here are some ways you can practice:

1.) Check with yourself. Throughout the course of the day, stop and breathe. Then evaluate what your thoughts have been that day. Positive? Negative? Which one outweighs the other. Hopefully positive. If you are thinking mostly negative, trying to see how you can turn those negative thoughts into positive.

2.) Make a friend with humor. Make yourself laugh and smile, especially when you are feeling down. Laughter is the best type of medicine.

3.) Follow a healthy lifestyle. Working out and physical activity is a great stress reviler, as well as it is great for your body. Also, following a healthy lifestyle will greatly benefit you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
