Everyday I get on social media and what do I see? Hate. Hatred is everywhere. Negativity is everywhere. From someone judging someone about their beliefs to their looks; who are we to judge? We are created equally, and we have no right to judge. So why is there so much negativity towards others? How can one simply stay positive in this negative world? The answer is simple;pray to God.

All of this negativity is clouding the fresh air of truth and muddying the waters of grace that flow to the eternal life through Jesus Christ. However, there are eight things to think about so that “the God of peace will be with you.”

"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things" (Philippians 4:8).

1. Whatever is true

God’s word; the Bible. God worked through everyday people through his word and speaks of the truth. In fact, God’s word is present within all of our lives to this day; listen to it. In addition, Jesus himself is truth. He says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Fixate yourself on the word of God, and you won’t be able to help, but think about the “truth.”

2. Whatever is Noble

We know noble when we see it. We can see it through men and women who serve our country so we can have freedom. We see it through honesty, generosity, and courage. Trying to live a life of being noble will lead to greater blessings of joy and fulfillment.

3. Whatever is Right

There is a right and wrong; we all know that. Right is to forgive others so we too may be forgiven, and wrong is to resent and hate. Trying to do what’s right can be challenging, but eternally rewarding.

4. Whatever is Pure

Jesus is pure. Selflessness is pure. Selfishness is impure. Be wholesome and live a pure life.

5. Whatever is Lovely

Physical appearances can be lovely, but internal beauty that derives from the Holy Spirit is always lovely. God’s creating is lovely.

6. Whatever is Admirable

Our sinful nature can sometimes make us admire things that are far from being admirable. Work to admire and appreciate God and his inspiring creations.

7. Whatever is Excellent

We should not only think about what is excellent, but we should continuously strive for excellence. God’s word is excellent, judgmental words are not so much.

8. Whatever is Praiseworthy.

Jesus died for us, and he is praiseworthy. Praise him, live for him. Do all you in presence of him.

Try to think about the positive and ignore the negative. I know it’s hard. Life tends to throw many unexpected curveballs. However, in everything you do try to think about “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
