The 'Political Newbie' Won't Always Be A Newbie

Politics may be a new thing for me but they are important

The 'Political Newbie' Won't Always Be A Newbie
Ali Giesler

Growing up, politics were something that was either vital to people or not so much. I happened to fall on the not so much side of things. It's not that I didn't care what was going on in the government, I just grew up with the idea that my voice was just going to get lost in the crowd. Plus, when I was younger, real-life issues and concerns don't carry as much weight because I couldn't vote and the issues more so affected my parents and people their age. But as time went on and I was able to vote and those political issues started to become more applicable to me and my future. So just like many people my age, I started to care and became what I like to call the 'Political Newbie'.

This political world is rather confusing but I am trying my hardest to catch up on lost time. Words are often thrown around that I have heard for so long but for the most part, I seriously have no idea what people are talking about. And that's the hard thing about trying to dive into this new world, just trying to be in it. Politics are always changing and just when I feel like I am getting up to speed on an issue, the issue has completely evolved and once again I am lost.

And because this world is so new to me, I don't really know where I stand on issues. I just don't understand. I have taken what feels like a handful of quizzes to see where I stand and what party I am for. But they are never accurate because I guess on half of the questions. The best option would be to have someone explain each question that was asked but that would take hours to do. And that is what makes trying to get into this new world so frustrating. Because it feels like no one in politics is patient enough to slow down and explain things without being bias.

So frustration behind, this 'Political Newbie' is becoming rather passionate about America and all it's crazy politics. I now know that my voice won't get lost in the crowd and that is such an empowering feeling. There are actually a lot of people out there that share the same political views as me. I am still trying to figure out what exactly those views are, but I am getting there slowly but surely. So watch out world, this 'Political Newbie' won't always be a newbie.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
