My Point Has Been Proven, Our School Has A Problem With Racism

But do you realize it?

An equal society is not unreal, it is necessary. Racism and colorblindness is an apparent problem at FGCU and the comments under my last article, which were white males from my school, were appalling and proved my point.

Colorblind racism is the belief that racism is no longer a problem and that we all have equal opportunities.

If you do not believe that equality is unrealistic, you’re racist.

The “I have black friends” excuse cannot save you from being a racist.

Addressing the issue and getting people angry is my role, if something isn’t said, we won’t be heard. There’s no reason to be angry at those who require equality.

Some people seem to confuse racism with free speech. I don’t believe humans are born racist or born homophobic, it’s taught and it isn’t easily untaught. Racism is internal and external, it is not easy to extract and to cure it requires absolute patience on both sides.

Humans are stubborn by nature; no one can instantly stop believing in an idea that they’ve always believed in without evidence or more knowledge.

Yes, I believe we can teach people to not to be racist, however, it will take some time. We need to inflict empathy, hypothetically let them stand in our shoes and see out of our lens.

The point of my recent article was to open eyes to those who need to look on behalf of the POC community at FGCU because, we, as a University, are segregated. Yes, you may have a POC in your friend group or fraternity, but you still might be segregated.

No one is here to bash or attack, we need to unite. We as a POC community do not have equal opportunities because at this rate we are a segregated community.

Yes, this university is segregated. You may not believe it, but it’s true. However, don’t take my word for it, do your homework, look around.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
