I walked on the Bay Trail to Boulevard Park in Bellingham, Washington, the other day, and through the bushes I could see the water. It was a foggy day, so the water just kinda faded into the sky. Later that day, I was back in a building, busy with school work, far from the bay. But I remembered that that wide open brilliant space was still out there… and just the knowledge of its existence was refreshing.
I walked on the Bay Trail today,
And through the brown branches of winter
I witnessed a luminous grey,
The water that went on forever.
The white fog enveloped all space
And snowberries glistened with raindrops
But more than the mist or the freshness of face
Was the water that went on forever.
And then I went back to a dark room
Of stuffiness, screens, checklists and messiness, though dry and with snacks, but with
Corners beeps inboxes strain relentless beeping and blinking but I will remember —
The water that goes on forever.
