She walked down the path
the tires cut through the tall grass,
remembering how she got here.
How she got to this day.
I'm going to count to ten
and then I'll come find you.
Her mother starts to count.
She and her siblings race to the best hiding spots.
She is lined up against her cousins
and someone yells Go!
She sprints across the yard,
picking up plastic eggs as she goes.
She's on waiting on first and
her coach whispers go.
There's the crack of the bat
and she's rounding third.
Years later, she's torn.
Stuck between two options,
her mind screams go.
So she packs and races away.
She's told no but
her heart screams yes.
She says go and feels
the needle race across her skin.
She looks back down at
the path and smiles.
Running has gotten her far,
but feeling has lead her to you.
For the first time her heart and brain
said go at the same time.
She listened and this time
there were no regrets.
She walks back and
falls onto the bed next you.
You ask her if she decided to go.
She smiles and slips under the covers.
You hear a whispered no and
she almost misses your sleepy smile.
She looks up at you from the pillow,
I'm not going without you.
