They say that love is fleeting,
It's there, and then it's not.
But I was sure that what we had
Would not decay and rot.
They say that once you've got it
You should hold on oh-so-tight,
And I did, until I couldn't
Because I thought it'd be alright.
And so I cry for the days that came and went,
I cry for the days we could have spent.
I cry for the future and the past,
Everything that didn't last.
I cry, above all else, for you.
The world was up against me
With a gun held to my head.
I was bitter until you taught me
How to love the world instead.
How could someone broken
Fix me right up, just like that?
I promised I would fix you,
But that vow has fallen flat.
Now I cry for the things I couldn't do,
I cry for the people crying too.
I cry for everything I've lost,
Who knew love had such a cost?
I cry, and I always will, for you.
