Two runners
breezing down a path
you burst ahead
closer to end
but further from me
I try
to keep up
as I beg you
to take a breather with me
to take a sip of water with me
But
whether you cannot
or simply do not want to
you do not stop
Leaving me miles behind
~~
Since having you in my life,
I have relinquished the privilege of giving up when the going gets tough.
You are the reason I learned to bike-ride at eighteen, better late than never.
You are the reason I got my license after three years of protesting it, but still better than never.
It’s just funny how,
when the going got tough for you, for us:
It was so easy to stop practicing what you preached.
Maybe, someday
you can put your words into action again.
Because as much as my head says no,
my heart will always know:
It’s better late than never.

“Now is not the right time”
Six little words are all it takes
to make it feel as though my ribs have cracked and my chest is caving in.
to leave me in a month of sweet torture.
Worrying how you feel, instead of how I feel.
to make me wonder what morning was the one where you woke up to my face and suddenly thought:
“I’m not sure if I want her anymore.”
