A Moment Underground
I look away from your eyes
Out of fear that
I will learn too much
The train rumbles
And we sway
Under the iridescent lights
Which flicker each time someone blinks
Piss scratches at our noses
And we claw at the pole
Fearful of being jolted and
Falling into our neighbor’s lap
Screeches and howls
Flood our ears as we
Tunnel through the underbelly
Of a city
That stole the stars
In the window
My reflection is scattered
You get up to leave
And I don’t meet your eyes
