What I've learned growing up is that nothing is always just black and white. Planned Parenthood is one of those topics that are not just simply black and white.
I am not afraid to admit that Planned Parenthood was something I had to become more educated on. I thought I knew about it, but in reality, I had no idea. I joined the Planned Parenthood Organization at my school and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It was so amazing to be able to get educated on the whole organization and see everything it has to offer.
When I tell people I'm part of an organization like this, I'm always asked, "Would you get an abortion yourself?" If I'm being honest, no.
I don't see myself getting one, but that doesn't mean I don't support it. I believe that just because I wouldn't do it, it means I have the authority to make that decision for someone else. I wouldn't like if someone made that decision for my body.
Yes, Planned Parenthood does offer abortions, but they offer so many other services that so many people are not aware of. Just some of the health services they offer are:
•Birth Control
•STD and HIV Testing
•Screening for Reproductive Cancers
•Pregnancy Services and Prenatal Care
• PREP AND PEP Testing
•Vaccines
And so many other services.
The list of services offered could go on and on. I think it's so important to try and become more educated on Planned Parenthood as a whole. It's a place that benefits both men and women.
Bottom line? I believe that just because you might not necessarily support one service offered, it doesn't mean you have to get rid of the whole thing. It's okay to be in control of your own body, but not anyone else's.
