Spring break has just ended and you got a small taste of summer freedom. Getting back into the swing of classes is definitely a challenge and the anticipation of finals will soon be on the horizon. So here are a few places you can escape to when you need a dose of nature to help you destress.
1. Vilano Beach
This beautiful beach is only a few miles away from campus. You can literally step out of your car and on to the sand, as you can park right on the beach in certain locations.
2. Anastasia State Park
Anastasia State Park has self-guided nature trails through sand dunes and hammock. You can rent paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, sail boats and bicycles.
3. Ravine Gardens State Park
Although this state park is a bit farther away from campus, it is well worth the drive. Located in Palatka, Florida, the park has two 120 foot deep ravines with a creek running through them. Hiking trails, formal gardens and picnic areas make this park the perfect place for a day away from life’s stressors. The main flowering period is from late January to April, during Azalea season.
4. Washington Oaks State Park
This Florida State Park is bordered by both the Matanzas River and the Atlantic Ocean. On the beach side, the shoreline is lined with coquina rock formations. The oak hammock and gardens have short trails for biking and hiking. There are fishing locations along the river and the beach.
