I have officially caught the Pixar bug. With Pixar Fest going on at Disneyland, and the amazing movies that have been out lately such as 'Coco,' 'Incredibles II,' 'Cars III,' and soon-to-be-released 'Toy Story 4,' 'Ralph Break the Internet: "Wreck-It Ralph 2" and more, I keep getting reminded about how great and inspiring Pixar Animation Studio is, bringing movies and characters to life and moving its audience every time.
Now I know we've all heard the crazy drama about their Chief Creative Officer, John Lasseter, being suspended for quite some months due to being a part of a sexual harassment case… First and for most, I have nothing to say. As speechless as I am, many others have made it clear that they are furious. Name calling, put-down comments, and showing 'hate' has been spread all over the media. With everyone's point of disappointment being very clear… my only response is knowing that he deeply regrets the situation he has placed himself in. There is no way in the entire world that he cannot feel any regret or hate in himself for losing one of the biggest roles in everyone's life.
Anyways, the reason why I am explaining all of this is also the reason why I decided to write about Pixar. Despite what's going on, I wanted to keep a positive vibe and share my top three Pixar films. Each one is always very moving, and inspiring to its audience. It has a different 'warm' feeling then Disney movies necessarily have.
1. "Monsters Inc." (2001)
I had to start with this one because I mean come on… the introduction/theme song is already so dang great. If I knew how to tap I would definitely be jamming to it all the time. All the doors, all the sceneries and extra details in this movie go BEYOND normal cinematic creativity. Most people do sleep on this one. Here's a mini secret: If you listen closely to Boo singing in the bathroom while Sully is waiting, the song she's singing is from "Beauty & the Beast"... Cool right!?
2. "Up" (2005)
Up is one of those movies you try avoiding because you know it's going to make you cry. I remember watching this movie for the first time at the theatre and was mad because Pixar made me cry almost 20 minutes into the movie instead of waiting until the end. This story definitely is one for the books. The beautiful music, romance, and youth Russell brings into Carl's life is the remedy to all wounds Carl carried in his heart due to Ellie, his wife, passing away. A tip on this one is if you watch "Toy Story 3," ... there is a Postcard from Ellie on Andy's board!
3. "Coco" (2017)
This is the most recent one. I hope EVERYONE has seen Coco already. This movie shares the beautiful Mexican cultural tradition called 'Dia De Los Muertos'. It's a celebration between the living and the dead. The main character, Miguel, visits the land of the dead and finds out the importance and love/passion for this celebration. Everyone makes food, plays music, and joins together to celebrate family members, loved ones, friends, and icons that have passed away. This festival is beautiful, and I was so happy to see Pixar finally bring this cultural celebration into a movie to educate children and adults about how amazing it is!!
There are so many other films and short films I could choose, however, I decided to choose these three because these always inspired/moved me the most. I am proud of Disney and Pixar for inspiring others and being a major reason as to why people love life and live happily. They make magic come to life and bring smiles to everyone's faces.
Xoxo,
