We’ve all seen the 2012 box office smash ‘Pitch Perfect’ and its 2015 sequel ‘Pitch Perfect 2’. We know them, we love them, we quote them.

The Pitch Perfect franchise along with shows such as 'Sing It On' and 'The Sing Off' opened the eyes of everyone to the crazy innovative world of A Cappella and it has blown up.

Being in an A Cappella group myself here at Texas A&M, the most common question I get asked is, “OH MY GOSH, is it just like Pitch Perfect?!”

Well, while not everything in the popular movie franchise depicts A Cappella in its true form, there are a lot of things in the movie that actually do happen in real life.

Just like the aca-gals in the movie we’re all from different backgrounds, we all love to sing, and we all love each other no matter what! (cheesy I know, but so true)

Here are 6 ways being in an A Cappella group is exactly like Pitch Perfect:

1. Auditions

“SINCE YOU’VE

BEEN GOOOOONE!!!

We hold auditions in the fall and the spring and let me tell you, they are nowhere near as intense as the one in Pitch Perfect. They are all done in fun!

2. We’re all best friends

Like seriously.

As soon as we get new members at the beginning of the semester all we want to do is hang out as much as we can because new friendships rock!!! You know you’ve found the right group of friends when mandatory rehearsals are your favorite part of the week am I right people???

3. We have our very own pre-show rituals

There's a lot of chanting and a lot of "hands in" but we love it.

4. Choreography

Some groups do it, some groups don't. But whether it's just jamming in place or doing full on high kicks - choreo is a staple in A Cappella.

6. We love to perform!!!!

5. We sing EVERYWHERE

We may not sing in deserted empty pools or have weekly riff offs but we sure do love our sporadic jam sessions! Rehearsal twice a week just isn’t enough for these Aca-gals.

6. Competition

These are just a few ways being in A Cappella is just like Pitch Perfect and while it’s not so glamorous at times, it’s definitely just as fun! I’ve found my forever home in my A Cappella group and I know these girls will be by my side for years to come. Each individual member is vital to the group as a whole. We each play a part in creating the music we sing and much like a working machine, if one part is missing, we simply cannot function.

Just like the movie, our bond is created through the sharing of a common passion – music.

If you love to sing your heart out with people who will quickly become some of your bffs then I strongly urge you to look for A Cappella groups on your high school or college campuses.

***Shameless plug alert***

Love Pitch Perfect, love to sing, and want a built in friend group consisting of some of the greatest people at Texas A&M? Then you should join an A Cappella group – believe me you won’t regret it!!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
