The Grammy's on Sunday, January 28, 2018, Pink's performance proved that she is a force to be reckoned with. I don't think when Alecia Beth Moore was born September 8, 1979, that her family knew what a huge influence she would have on women.
Alecia Moore was 10 years old her parents divorced, this had a devastating impact on her. She began writing lyrics as an outlet for her feelings and her lyrics were very dark and introspective. Alecia began performing at a Philadelphia club when she was 14 years old, this is when she began using the stage name Pink. She had initially been given the nickname Pink because she blushed and her cheeks turned pink.
Pink signed a recording contract with Laface Records, releasing her debut single "There You Go," February 2000. Since that debut song, she has done nothing but proves she deserves her success and that she is more than a singer.
She is known for her style almost as well as her voice, her style is described as adventurous with her hairs styles such as pink fluorescent spikes, pink-streaked dreadlocks toa pitch black skater cut. She has described her own style as eclectic, little bit tomboy, kind of a hippie and a bit gangster.
Pink is honest in lyrics and also in her life, admitting she is not perfect and has flaws. She married Carey Hart in 2006, but they separated in 2008, with the same honesty she puts in her songs, she stated marriage was difficult. Seeking marriage counseling, which she has been very open about they reconciled in 2009. They have two children now, Willow Sage born 2011 and Jameson Moon, born 2016.
Pink's knows how to work an arena blending aerial performance art and songs about self-acceptance with her lyrics that are both salty and sweet. Her previous award show performances have included a Cirque de Soleil inspired routine, a performance in which she was suspended in the air in a special harness called "aerial tissue" twirling and doing incredible feats of acrobatics and an incredible acrobatic dance routine.
Sunday night's performance showed a whole other layer of Pink, she appeared on the stage in just jeans, a white off the shoulder shirt and barefooted. The lack of glamour and theatrics showed that this song needed to be heard and not just seen. The song "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," a soul-stirring ballad that had a sign language interpreter unearthing the drama within the lyrics.
This song and this performance didn't need anything but the powerful voice of Pink. Time and time again she shows why she is a songwriter and singer, not just a performer.
