As everyone knows, our vocabulary has changed a lot in the past years. We no longer say “Groovy, man" because it's not really relevant anymore. We actually laugh when people say old sayings now. What we say changes as we change, which is a very beautiful thing. Honestly, these phrases really need to not be a thing already because we've progressed passed it.
"You're gay."
By definition, gay means cheery or is most commonly known for its affiliation with being homosexual. I'll admit I'm biased when it comes to using gay in a negative connotation as I have gay family members, but still. It's 2015 guys, being gay is no longer considered a mental disorder and most states let same sex couples marry. So why do we need to use gay in a way that brings the group of people down? I personally think we should all use “You're so straight." (in a negative way) until people stop using gay in the wrong way.
"That's retarded."
First of all, I highly doubt whatever is being talked about can fall under that category. Once again, IT'S 2015 EVERYONE! We shouldn't be putting down these people for something they can never control. Being mentally disabled in any way isn't something that should be the end of a joke. Ever. So lets all agree to stop being so negative towards everyone!
"YOLO"
One question; did you need clarification that you only live once? I don't think Drake's intention was for a bunch of kids doing stupid stuff to justifying their actions by blaming it on “YOLO". Although you do only live once, I don't recommend doing the majority of what people deem YOLO worthy. Regardless, go on adventures and have the time of your life. You don't need a dumb phrase to do that.
"I could care less."
This is one place where spelling and grammar comes into play. Quick lesson; I could care less means there is room for caring and that you actually care at least a little bit. I couldn't care less means you COULD NOT CARE LESS. There is no room for caring. You cannot care. Please for the love of all that is grammatically correct, stop staying I could care less!
Ok, maybe I'm a grammar Nazi and have a passion for words but hey, there has to be some of us out there. We all have words and phrases that bother us, I know I'm not alone! Let's all move on from saying these phrases so we can laugh about it later.
