To The Person Who Killed My Pet

He was not a thing, he was family.

Hi,

You don’t know me but I’m the owner of the dog you killed. Do you remember? The white little dog that was just walking and you just came with your car faster than light and just killed him. You probably already forgot you did it, but clearly, I haven’t. I know this may be weird and you may think it’s stupid, but to be it’s not. You see, that dog was not always mine, he was my grandmother’s. He was the light if her life, he was her caregiver. Literally, every time she would faint he would bark until someone came to help. He was always with her, and sometimes he would go with her to her doctor appointments. When she got sick she wrote us a letter thanking us for everything we have done, she said and I quote “I’m entering an operations room alive and probably leaving without it.” At the end of this letter, she asked us to take care of the little things she had, and the most important things in her life were her dogs. So when she died, we took her dogs like they were one of ours. Everything was perfect her two dogs were now living with us in an amazing house with a lot of space so they could run and play all day, we were happy. Until you came.

You came with your car and ended the happiness he had; you came and took part of our family; and with that, you took our happiness. The thing is that you did not end his life automatically, you crushed his little body, stopped your car and when you saw what you have done you ran like a coward. Is frustrating because we weren’t home so one of our neighbors had to call us and tell what had happened. Imagine what is like to be out with your friends and receive a call saying that you would probably have to stay at someone house because our dog was bleeding to death and my parents were on the way to a vet to try and save his life. Imagine was it's like to promise the person you must love in the whole world that you will take care of their dog and then have this happen.

I would love to say I am not mad and that I forgive you, but I don’t. No, because you actually killed my dog, even though that’s the main reason, but because you didn’t have the heart to get out of your car and looked at what you had done. But I’m optimistic, so I hope not everyone is like you. Still the fact that people do things like this and run make me mad because it is an example that society has a long way to go.

I hope that I’ve reminded you of what you did and you can never forget so that you will always live with the thought that you destroyed a family. And I hope you have a nice day.

Sincerely,

The Owner

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
