Summer School Is A Great Choice And I'm Thankful I Signed Up

Summer school has its perks even though it's a huge sacrifice.

What is the first thing that pops into your head when you think about summer? Definitely not summer school. I think about the beach and hanging out with friends. Summer school would be the last thing you would do during your vacation because you just spent a year barely surviving. You need a break, right? Taking summer school would be a huge sacrifice but it's definitely worth it.

If I wasn't in summer school, I would stay in bed until 12 pm.

With summer school, you are forced to get up and get your body and brain moving. There is no excuse for sleeping in. Once you're awake, you can head to school and learn. After, you can head to the gym or do other important activities such as grocery shopping. By the time you're done, it would be around 2 pm. If you didn't taking a summer class, chances are you would still be in bed around 2 pm.

Another perk is that you are getting ahead in your studies. Depending on your major, sometimes it's better to take a summer class because then you won't fall behind on all those prerequisites. Schools often encourage students to take summer school. For example, the major coursework for an engineering major encourages them to take summer classes if they want to graduate in four years. Obviously that would be a pain and I wouldn't recommend it. (It's normal to graduate in 5 years for engineering.)

If you're retaking the class, that is totally understandable. Sometimes it's better to retake it and only focus on that class so you can actually understand the material. Sometimes, life can get difficult and taking six classes at the same time can be challenging. There is absolutely no shame in retaking a class. Also, if you're getting ahead of your game well then A plus for you!

I know this would be a huge sacrifice because then you would have less time with friends and family. Usually, summer classes are only six weeks. That is not all summer. You can spend the other six weeks living your best life at the beach with your best friends.

You will look back and be glad you took that summer class because if it weren't for that math class, you would still be in school for one more semester. A little sacrifice is worth it for your academic future.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
