Staying in a college town during the summer, you get to see a different side of the town. You actually get to see the families that live in the area that hides away for eight months out of the year while 38,000 20-something kids take over the town. My favorite things about staying in a college town during summer are...
The traffic.
Traffic goes from a constant struggle, bumper to bumper everywhere to pretty laid back. The locals come out and can’t drive as awesome as us college students, but with more room on the road, I don’t mind sharing.
The wait at restaurants basically disappears.
Those crowded sports bars where your favorite wings are? EMPTY. You can actually manage to snag a seat as soon as you walk in and order pretty quick.
The Wi-Fi speed doubles.
Since everyone is at home hogging their own Wi-Fi routers, the campus Wi-Fi and even the Wi-Fi at the apartments work like a charm. Netflix all day if you like, no buffering.
Pocket Points are way easier to use.
Want a free Insomnia cookie using Pocket Points? Well since there aren’t 38,000 other people trying to use the 30 coupons they give out a week you can head out and enjoy a free cookie anytime.
Bye-bye noisy neighbors.
Maybe not for everyone, but the past 2 summers almost all of the people living in my apartment building have moved out right after graduation. Meaning no loud music playing 24/7 and no dogs barking at 3 a.m.
Dare I say, parking is easy.
Want to go shopping, or get some ice cream? Well lucky you! Since there are no longer 38,000 extra people the parking lots just got a lot more open.
These are my six favorite things about staying in a college town during the summer! If you stay in your college town, you probably have something similar taking place and understand how nice the break in all the commotion is!
Happy Summer!
