There are many difficulties in a long distant relationship but there are also a few perks which make the difficulties just a little easier.

Both people get very good at communication skills

Being long distant you have to talk about conflict that arises because they don't see you face to face so the only way to resolve it is by talking which is something long distant couples can do best because that's what they do all day long. All long distant couples do is talk so after a while communicating skills get easier.

Both also gain more patients

It's hard to not see someone for a while. Sometimes FaceTime doesn't work or you are overcome by missing them so you just have to learn to be patient and not take it out on them.

You each get to each have your own life but then have one together as well

Each person gets to pursue their passions and interests and spend time with your other friends. Especially being in college you can experience all there is college has to offer. You also learn to become independent. You learn a lot about yourself and the other person.

Every time you see them it is even more special and exciting

Every time you see them it is more memorable and appreciate the times you do spend together. There is also something to look forward to as the time gets closer or think of when you miss them.

Hard work but it's worth it

Not seeing someone you care about can be hard and sad. But seeing them for the first time after a while is exciting like it is in the beginning. Being in a long distance relationship can be challenging but with the right person can totally be worth it and make life just a little better.
