The Perfect Gifts For Any College Student

We have no money, so we'll take what we can get

The Perfect Gifts For Any College Student

College students are probably the easiest group to buy holiday gifts for. We are at that point in our lives where we are so broke we just want the most basic things. You simply cannot go wrong buying a college student any of these gifts. These are perfect if you need a last minute gift idea.

1. Money

We need money for everything in college, and yet we have none. You can't go wrong giving a college student money. This way they can buy whatever they want with it. Instead of giving them a sweater they are probably never going to wear, give them money so they can go buy a sweater they actually want. From buying books, to food, to groceries, college students are always hurting for money.

2. Gift Cards

This one is hard because so many people think that these are impersonal, and they are. But as college students we really couldn't care less. This might be a little smarter than money too. Because if we really need food and we get a gift card to buy only food we have no way of blowing it on alcohol for that New Year's party we're throwing.

3. Alcohol

For those legal students, of course. Now as parents I wouldn't suggest getting this for your child. But maybe if you're a cool aunt or a brother or cousin it makes a little more sense. Because let's be honest we are in college and we are going to parties, so we are going to get it one way or another. And most college kids don't like to blow their money on alcohol, so it would be pretty cool to get a fancy bottle of wine for the holidays.

4. Socks

When it comes to doing laundry we always lose socks, right? But just imagine doing laundry as a college student, you don't just lose a pair. You lose the right sock of three pairs and the left sock of another two. Having a matching pair of socks in college is nearly impossible.

5. Monthly payments

This one is a little different because you would have to talk to them and ask if they would want this, which I'm sure they would. A lot of college students are actually pretty low maintenance so offering to pay their Netflix or Spotify bill for December and January could make their lives a little easier, especially if they are really short on money.

6. Tickets

We love to be able to go to events. Whether it's a concert, or a show, or a festival. We are so busy with class and extra curricular activities that we love to be able to go to events that let us escape from all that. You can't go wrong getting your college student a concert ticket to see their favorite artist, even if the concert isn't until June.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
