A lot of people really don't consider planning for a coed fraternity to really be a challenge. Of course, men and women are supposed to be equal but in reality, joining a huge a coed chapter means you're mixing a large group of men and women of different backgrounds and interests. So planning a social can be a little tricky when you want to think of something fun for everyone to do.
I know a lot of people assume that a "social" probably means we all kick back with some alcohol and pop in a movie but theres a lot more to it. Actually planning a public social event for all members of the fraternity takes up a lot of effort and there's no alcohol.
The social is a time for members and interested members of society can go and mingle and chat along with a planned fun activity. For my social, I decided to have a game night in the game room of my university which included a bowling and billiards area. As a custom touch I created hand-made letters for each member to sign. This can also be given as a gift later *wink-wink* to a big or an advisor. It also shows an emotional tie to the event.
The social should be planned in an attempt to have something for everyone to do. Sure, movie nights and going to dinner is fun but actually being able to move around and talk to people and interact is always a good social skill. It may be overwhelming to try and plan something for everyone, but something from the heart is always the best choice!
