To The People Who Hate Odyssey

So what's the difference between our organized commentaries on current events versus the average Facebook rant?

To The People Who Hate Odyssey
Odyssey

So you're a content creator (writer) for Odyssey and you're scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, etc. and you come across an article bashing The Odyssey. Out of curiosity, you read it in its entirety wondering why someone could bash a social platform that gives voices to the unheard.

So for the people that haven't taken the time to find out what Odyssey is all about, here you go. Basically, the creators write one article per week on ANYTHING that they want to. This includes political events, sports events, 10 things you like about your mom, and the very notorious "an open letter to". This is a sample, you can quite literally write about anything. So, don't get me wrong, I've read a lot of "An Open Letter To" articles and not all of them are my cup of tea, but at the end of the day we just need to respect the opinion of someone else. Someone took time out of their day to write a 500+ word article about whoever. Give them a little slack. If Sarah wants to write "An Open Letter To My Best Friend", let her. Just keep scrolling.

Another thing that needs to be addressed is the fact that people look at an article and see "theodysseyonline.com" underneath and immediately think we are some sort of social warrior trying to fight off some group of people. We are writing these articles for fun. We are bringing awareness to hot topics. Granted, a lot of times our opinions get intertwined and we end up with an article that contains reputable source and a whollllleeeee lot of opinion. It happens. But what is the difference between someone going on a Twitter rant, or a Facebook rant? Literally nothing except for the fact that ours is on an actual platform may be slightly more organized than the typical rant, AND it goes through an editing system. (Also, we actually need to base our topics off something that actually happens, not some BS news headline that people on Facebook get really hyped over...and then it turns out it isn't real.)

The purpose of this article is not to bash the people who don't like Odyssey. If I disregarded the opinion of the people that don't like Odyssey, I would completely go against my morals. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has a right to express their opinion. I may not agree with everyone's opinion, but that doesn't mean they don't have the right to feel the way they do. We are not social warriors, we are just shedding light on how we feel. That is all.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
