October has come and gone and November has brought the Christmas spirit with it. People are booting up their Spotify and Pandora accounts with Christmas songs, throwing old Christmas VHS tapes in their VCR's, getting hot chocolate ready to go and some are even putting their trees up early.
Yes, the season on giving comes earlier and earlier every year but some hate that. While some find enjoyment in the music and themes that the Christmas season brings, others become real-life embodiments of Scrooge, often criticizing others on their love of Christmas music or early celebration.
Here are 8 reasons why you should just let people enjoy Christmas early:
1. Christmas music is beautiful.
The homey jazz ensembles, the piano concertos, the bells, the Sinatra, they are all beautiful pieces to a magnificent style of music that is seemingly only allowed during the month of December. Nothing is better than hearing those first classic Christmas songs come on at the mall when you begin Christmas shopping in November.
2. Christmas music is calming.
Besides 'Carol of the Bells' Christmas music is generally very calming. It has a soft, quiet aspect to it that differs from music you'd normally hear on the radio. It's nice to get off work and drive home to sounds of a slow tempo bell and piano concerto than to hear about politics or that one song the radio never stops playing. *cough* Despacito.
3. Decorating is Therapeutic.
For most, decorating for Christmas is therapeutic. It's a portal to another time, when we were children, decorating with our family. There is nothing like putting the ornaments up before thanksgiving and getting to see the tree for more than a month.
For those that get live trees, decorating early means you get more value for your money, you'll see your tree for more than a month. Lastly, who wouldn't want to see the beautiful colors and pretty lights longer?
4. It improves your mood.
Christmas is one of those few parts of the year that everyone is generally kinder. Beyond the groups and individuals that don't celebrate, or those who find that Christmas is more stressful than relaxing, it improves your mood. Christmas is the time of giving, of cheerfulness and jolliness.
5. Eggnog.
That lovely, creamy, spiced beverage that only comes out around the holiday season. Need I say more?
6. Holiday Pastries.
Thanksgiving has a lot of its own seasonal baked goods but Christmas has many as well. Pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, Christmas cookies, sweet potato casserole. Honestly, Thanksgiving and Christmas go hand in hand on this one.
7. Christmas Shopping.
This one is hit-or-miss. Some find it relaxing and have a great time shopping for others (and sometimes themselves.) Others, they may find it the exact opposite. For the most part, people often enjoy scouring the mall during the holiday season, seeing the tree up, Santa paying a visit to local children, the jazzy Christmas elevator music. There is just nothing like it.
8. It's Christmas.
It's the Christmas season. Why not let people just enjoy it. It only comes for a short time every year, and it makes people happy.
Happy holidays!!!
