To The People I Aspire To Be Like

I guess what I really want to say is thank you for choosing to be the people that you are.

Hey y’all.

You probably know already if this letter applies to you. You are the people who I do nice things for, Snapchat and text probably a little too much, and am always ready to greet you with a ginormous smile. I am always excited to hear about what’s popping in your life, and you probably see me at my most awkward self (only because I feel that comfortable around you, of course).

Most of you have also been told countless times about what I most admire about you. For some, it’s your ability to make everyone around you feel a warm, happy glow in their bellies and coat everything around you with honey with your natural kindness. For others, it’s the way you are able to form your words and give the type of advice that rivals the wisdom of the oldest, wisest, grandparent. Some of you have this unfound confidence with each and every step you take that takes my breath away, and some of you have this natural ability to always find ways to make others laugh, even when they are facing their worst days.

While you all have your different, superpowers that make you so special in my eyes, the thing that ties you all together in my mind is that your actions and personas alone inspire me every day to be my best self. I strive to be able to conquer life in the way all of you do, and you motivate me to stay comfortable in my own skin and put my best foot forward.

Say for example that I am in a really bad mood about some existential crisis, and I come ranting and raving to you asking for you to either calm me down or give me some advice on how to deal with the situation. You all always deliver when this happens, but in more ways than one. First, you are always able to successfully calm me down and give me the advice that I crave. This is wonderful, and I extremely appreciate this. However, the thing that you don’t really know is that the care and consideration you show towards usually inspires me more than your advice could ever accomplish. The time and effort into making sure that eventually end up in a good state of mind motivates me to be just as kind, caring, and supportive as all of you.

You all just know instinctively how to act like decent human beings. I see how you treat life and handle all its punches, and that makes me realize that there are people out there like me who struggle too. Everyone struggles, but the way you are all able to fight your way through with grace and strength makes me realize that I can do the same if I put the effort into it.

I guess what I really want to say is thank you for choosing to be the people that you are. You don’t have to be nice to everyone, you don’t have to offer out great advice, and you don’t have to employ your superb listening ears. However, you choose to utilize these qualities every day, and your efforts don’t go unnoticed. Not only do you make a difference in my life and encourage me to imitate your actions, but I am certain you inspire the hearts of many others. You make this world a great place to live in, and I cannot imagine life without your little bit of sparkle in it.

Stay Golden,

Your pal Taylor

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
