This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend the Pentatonix concert at the Nebraska State Fair. It was an exhilarating experience listening to one of the most popular music groups out there perform live for a highly energetic and enthusiastic sellout crowd. And who can beat singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody with thousands of people who all know the words?

However, my favorite part of the whole experience was the fact that all those thousands of people were there appreciating true musical talent. When it comes to a capella groups like Pentatonix, people rarely stop to think about what these musicians are accomplishing. They are singing every single song with no background music or accompaniment, and yet still hit every note with perfect pitch, provide vocal percussion, and give a spellbinding and entertaining performance. A capella singers are some of the best musicians on this planet, and when they give a concert, people will voluntarily lend an ear, cheering as the singers hit superhuman notes and nail incredible licks. As a musician, that captivated me and made the concert that much more special.

So the moral of the story is that if you get the chance to see Pentatonix live in concert, do it. You will never ever regret it because they are absolutely amazing. And while you’re there, don’t forget to admire and revel in the pure talent the singers possess. Trust me, that won’t be hard to do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
