Pay Attention Volume 2

What a time to be a woman, better yet what a time to be an American (contrary to the opinion of some). I woke up so full of zeal and inspiration from the events that occurred Saturday. According to U.S. UNCUT millions of people world-wide organized, for it is estimated that “over 670 marches took place worldwide” for the Women’s March. So again, I will mention just as I did last week that “There’s excellence all around us. What are you choosing to set your sights on?” In addition to such I am compelled to remind you that there is also hope, zeal, courage, tenacity, and vision all around us. What are you choosing to embrace as your own?

Now, this notion of embracing something as your own is really a tricky yet endearing truth for me. It isn’t one that appeared over-night (although I hope that you all won’t struggle as much as I have). To adopt this habit I had to work for it, and I’ll continue to because it is one of the most freeing experiences I’ve encountered. To embrace something as your own is to release those inhibitions that often grip our visions, hopes, and even internal voice so tight –that it even appears impossible to grow beyond. You know those dreams you have etched deep in your heart, the ones you’ve always envisioned yet can never seem to turn into reality, the ones that you (and sometimes those around you) perpetually talk down upon. I’m talking about those desires that we often laugh off as if they’re joke, yet with each laugh we’re pained because for us it’s rarely ever “just a joke”.

What’s the saying, “behind every joke there is an underlying truth”? Well here in 2017, we no longer have time for jokes that aren’t funny due to their lack of comedic relief and your dreams ladies and gentlemen are not jokes; they’re real and tangible. Those injustices that you wish to see an end to are also real and tangible. The love you wish to give and in return deserve to reciprocate is very real and tangible. It may not come with ease. You may have to labor for these desire but they’re very realistic –and we must end the confusion that required work translates into being impossible.

“… the things which are impossible with men are possible with God” –Luke 18:27. I’ve watched this scripture manifest into my daily life. I’m talking like full-fledge manifestation. Some dreams that I had tucked in my heart –causally shrugging them off as a joke are now in fruition. Dreams and desires that I wasn’t even aware were mine to own I’m now fully embracing. Although I didn’t always know the “how” or “when” (as I still don’t in many cases) I have committed to relinquish my inhibitions and step out on the faith that each day there is something positive, affirming and purposeful for me to both give and receive.

Change is truly in the air, as we watched and participated in this historic moment Saturday. Voices are being heard –many of the same ones that too were shrugged off or casually looked over as just a joke are now ringing with words of conviction and petition. Dr. Cornel West once said “your voice is like your fingerprint, no one else has it but you”. So I implore you to spend time fine-tuning your hearing to your spirit.Get engage with yourself, delve into those fears and dreams. Treat them alike, meaning take the time to discover them in their entirety rather than explore one and not the other. Dig in deep to locate the roots of your fears and then muster the courage to neglect such and plant further in love.

Embrace this overwhelming sense of hope, zeal, courage, tenacity, and vision as your own. Open your spirit up to believe that change too can happen for you. For manifestation has no respect of person, but is faithful to all that truly believe. So test your faith and place application behind those desires and dreams.

Go get what’s yours this year. Remain steadfast and diligent to your truth and watch the arrival of manifestation as you continuously trek on faith.

And to all the dreams you’ll untuck I wish fruition and longevity.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
