Plop. The fishing lure falls into the water. Now it is time to wait. The small boat is at the mercy of the waves. Back and forth the swaying vessel moves. Time to wait. Waiting is boring but necessary. If the job is done right, the fish will come to you. The work is mostly preparation. Getting a boat, knowing how to use the boat, picking the day to fish... that’s all the planning. Then you need fishing poles, line, hooks, lures, sinkers, and of course, bait. To get to the point of relaxing and waiting takes time and effort. Experience makes the job go by much faster.
Experience is never given, but earned. The sunshine fisherman will never have the experience or the patience to sit here. Believe it or not, sitting and watching the lines is difficult. Sitting and waiting for the slightest nudge in the line. One cannot sleep or be distracted. Distractions are how fish get lost. If one does not pay attention to grab the pole right when to the line is tugged, then the fish is lost. Wait, be ready, for you do not know the hour the fish is coming. A lesser fisherman would talk, drink beer or goof off when the fish comes. When one comes on the boat to fish you should fish, nothing else. Fishing takes laser focus. For all the lines cast, only a few will catch fish. Only a fool would believe that each line will get a fish. The fish are smart; someone will take the bait before you are able to grab the pole. Better luck next time. Just because this time you catch nothing does not mean you won’t catch something next time.
In fishing ,you must learn that the best results happen when you cast more lines. The number of lines do not have to be the same. Some days you may want to cast a few. The next day maybe many more. Who knows, there may be days you cast a hundred and there may be days you cast one. The important part is to sit in patient silence waiting for the fish to come. Sit in the boat and ponder for a while. Think about whatever you want. Your goals, hobbies, dreams and just life in general. Study the past. Do whatever on your fishing trip… Plop, as I cast another line.
