Have you found yourself? Do you know who you are and who you want to become? Do you know your options? Do you stand by the no matter the circumstance? Should you? Do you know your morals and your true personality? My guess is you've answered no to at least one of these questions.
As an adolescent, I feel as if we are put on a journey to so-called "find ourselves." Pick a desired path, a journey, a way to go about this world, follow a road of twists and turns. We all embark on this journey in our life. Even when you're a child the question arises of "What do you want to be when you grow up?" The world started off as full of possibilities, the paths you could take are endless you answer things like, "astronaut" or "brain surgeon." But as you get older, as you start to grow certain paths reveal themselves as easier to take than others. You realize that you really hate math, so the path of becoming an engineer becomes filled with weeds that would have to be chopped down for you to follow that path. This is where I am on my journey. Some paths have revealed themselves as easier to travel than others, but then questions arise and you wonder what path is truly best for you. You assess and analyze the situation until you come to a realization.
You don't know what path to take until you're already there. One day you find a path, this path has twists and turns, but you've chosen it. Sometimes there are sections of the path where you have to chose the direction you're going to go in, whether this is a new job offer or even a moral decision. Sometimes you take the right path, and sometimes you don't, but no matter what you're on the path that you've chosen. You cannot turn back, so you must make the best out of the situations, you take the lessons you've learned on your path and use them for later.
Sometimes you hit a crossroads on this path. You meet other people, friends, family, maybe even a spouse. They help you on this path, walk with you, guide you, teach you, stand by you. It's in these crossroads that we learn and grow, not only by ourselves but with others.
I have a theory that on this path we are on a constant search for ourselves. The thing about the path is it never really ends. With every step you take you become a little wiser, a little stronger, a little more sure of yourself. When you've walked the path for so long you have a general idea of the person you are, but, as mentioned before, the crossroads, the forks in the road, they never really stop. I'd like to think that we are constantly evolving, no matter how far on this path we get we are continuously learning more about ourselves and the world around us, the best way to navigate the path.
As for me, I'd like to think I haven't gotten very far on my path. I've been choosing my way, sometimes the right one, sometimes the wrong one, but learn from these decisions. and the direction I've chosen on my path. I'm slowly starting to learn more about myself. In this.\, I've learned that my subconscious, options, and ideas are ever changing, and that's OK. Even good in some ways. So I continue on my path, hitting crossroads, turns, and forks in the road, but I'm constantly learning and evolving as a person throughout this journey, and that's pretty awesome.
So, if you weren't able to answer one of the questions I mentioned in the beginning part of this article, know that it's OK. Our paths are ever changing and confusing at points, but we are learning from ourselves and the paths we have chosen. So keep walking the path, the ups and downs are normal. Enjoy the crossroads and learn what you can. Because this path, it does not define us, but what we do with the path and the lessons we have learned on it does.
