My Favorite YouTubers

What these YouTubers all have in common.

YouTube, for all its controversy, is filled with great content. Logan Paul’s recent video of a Japanese suicide victim is arguably its worst thus far, but I have personally yet to forget Keemstar or the Adpocalypse.

Anyway, I want to share some great channels, some big and some small, that I look forward to finding videos from every day. Some are gaming, some are comedy, some are more serious, while others are informative.

First off is Lindybeige; he mostly speaks on medieval military tactics, but talks about concepts throughout the history of war, and I find myself watching a lot of his videos not only out of a genuine personal interest but also because of his stage presence. He is charismatic in a nerdy way, and anyone interested in military concepts will find something within his content.

Second comes a very popular YouTuber by the name of Boogie2988. You might have seen one of his “Francis” videos, an alter ego that rages on many different subjects with a distinct lisp, and an even more distinct attitude. However, like a lot of his fanbase, the Francis videos aren’t what I come for; I enjoy his more serious videos.

These videos concentrate on anything from videogames, to Magic: The Gathering, to more serious topics like suicide, mental illness, and weight issues (all of which Boogie has had ample experience with). Sometimes I feel as though he is too much of a centrist, and it disappoints me because sitting on the fence is a sign of weakness, not intellectually, but of spirit. He never seems sure of his opinions, and, even if I enjoy listening to his opinions, they never seem to be completely clear.

Even if the whole video had leaned to one side, he finds a way to conclude the video with, “Well, here is what both sides think, I don’t know”. Now, I’m not trying to paint him as someone not worth watching or listening to. Boogie2988 is a very entertaining channel, and it is inspiring hearing his story, his successes and failures, and seeing how much progress he has made thus far. Overall, it is one of my favorite channels, and I’m happy that he seems to upload very regularly, despite a lot off new pressures and responsibilities.

Third, I’d like to introduce two mildly popular music review YouTubers. I wasn’t sure if I’d rather have two separate paragraphs for them, especially considering how they both cover very different genres of music, but I believe that a side-by-side comparison would suit these two much better. The first is my most favorite: The Rap Critic. Over the past few years, I have become someone who simply couldn’t understand rap’s popularity and hold over the music industry since the 1990’s, to yet another fan.

I generally don’t enjoy mainstream rappers, but this certainly doesn’t stop me from anticipating The Rap Critic’s videos with great excitement. I enjoy both scathing reviews (which, somewhat disappointingly, are much more common than positive reviews), and songs in which he finds passion in. The art for each thumbnail is unique and comedic, and though his outfit is, admittedly, kind of a rip-off of the Nostalgia Critic, he wears the hat and jacket well, and I enjoy the obvious passion he puts in his videos. His non-rap pop music counterpart is Todd in the Shadows.

Sometimes these two will collaborate, especially on songs that feature both rap and pop, and these are always well done, if rare. Todd in the Shadows hides his identity not videogame gameplay or pictures, but through literal shadows. His reviews are very similar in style and conduct as The Rap Critic’s, and the fun is compounded if you watch both channels through this fact alone.

These two are fantastic not just for if you like rap and/or pop music, but if you enjoy seeing YouTubers who truly enjoy both what they produce videos on and the art of video editing itself. The only drawback is that they are nearly complete inactive when it comes to the very much alive comment sections. Don’t expect a reply, but do expect great content.

My last few YouTubers belong to the enormous videogame community that resides on YouTube. I decided to group them together for those of you who enjoy videogames in general and want both informative and/or funny videos. Call of Duty YouTubers are hardly far and few between, but there are three who truly stand out with amazing and regular content instilled with equal passion.

The first is NerosCinema, an informative but fun Call of Duty channel. Nero’s awesome subscriber community as well as his passionate and informative videos combine into a viewing experience that few channels can emulate. Nero’s videos present some information on the weapons and tactics within the latest Call of Duty game, but it is his infectious spirit, pleasant voice, and awesome gameplay that makes him one of my top 5 YouTubers of all time. You should expect not only very regular content, but amazing gameplay, and the latest Call of Duty news.

What truly makes this channel one of the best, however, is it’s one of the few YouTube comment sections that lacks overbearing toxicity (it is still present, of course), and is as enjoyable to read as the videos are to watch, especially considering Nero’s fastidiousness in replying to his loyal fans. Next is Driftor, one of the oldest and most popular channels.

Though he can be monotone, Driftor leads an interesting channel full of varied videos. His older selection dating to nearly a decade old, I believe, holds many different topics; from life stories (another YouTuber with a turbulent yet interesting past) to his proposal to his wife, to buying his dogs (two Shiba Inu puppies, one who he swears is mentally challenged or deaf), to paranormal experiences and philosophy videos.

Unfortunately, these videos have become less regular as he has drifted toward streaming due to greater revenue, but these are also entertaining, and he still releases philosophy videos as well as very informative content on the latest Call of Duty title (these videos mostly objective, utilizing statistical data from reliable sources). PrestigeIsKey is a relatively new Call of Duty YouTuber, as he only began creating content within the last couple of years. However, his channel has gained a decent following despite the multitude of Call of Duty content creators, and it is his passion and voice that make these videos so entertaining.

His channel is almost a mix of Driftor and NerosCinema as he provides Call of Duty news and tips & tricks like Nero, while combining the more personal aspect of Driftor’s videos, that is, talking about his life (like marrying his girlfriend, his father being released from prison, feeling attacked simply because he liked an unpopular Call of Duty title, etc.). I recommend subscribing to all three if you want the most fulfilling Call of Duty YouTube viewing experience.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
