When I was about 15-years-old, my favorite line began to be “I cannot wait until I'm old enough to move out." I just couldn't take being in Pascagoula any longer and I didn't understand how or why people were settling down there and raising a family. That is until I left my cute little hometown behind and moved roughly sixty miles away. When I left for the first time I was so excited to leave that I just couldn't wait to escape, yet now here I am in my fourth month of college every once and a while wishing I had the comfort of my beautiful hometown. There are little things about the town that make it original and a wonderful place to be.
Of course, my favorite thing about Pascagoula is that my family lives there. Yet not only do my parents live there but also my extended family, and those who do not live in the same town live just fifteen to thirty minutes away. There are also all of the friends in the community who might as well be your family you are so close. That is one amazing thing about a small town like Pascagoula, we are big enough to bring in revenue but not too big to where we still have that close-knit community of citizens. I love how every time I go to the local grocery store, Jerry Lee's, I see a friendly face and we stop and talk about life and catch up. Every cashier there is just as friendly and nice as the next, and it's so nice to see people enjoy and love where they are. In our small town, there are also small and local business that have been such a hit people in different states travel to our town just to experience the heavenly food these business have created. I love visiting these places when I come home from school, when I am craving a burger I go Edd's Drive-In and when I'm craving seafood I go to Bozo's Seafood Market, yet when I have a sweet tooth my favorite place is Anderson's Bakery. Each of these are important pieces to the town along with other wonderful businesses.
One of Pascagoula's main attractions, is of course, the beach. As of right now the city of Pascagoula is trying its best to make the beach and the city itself more attractive and luxurious for not only its residents but its guests, because who wants an ugly beach? No one. One of my favorite things to do is drive down the beach with my windows down breathing the fresh air and the smell of the water mixed together. Something every college kid does when they come back into town is go for a ride down the beach and just enjoy the feeling of being home.
Pascagoula may not be the greatest city to you, but to me, it is because it is home. I used to hate being in Pascagoula, yet after taking time away I love it. I love being home with my family, eating and shopping from the local businesses and being able to ride down the beach and breathe in damp salt water air that at same time is so refreshing. I believe Pascagoula is the greatest place on Earth because it is my place.
