APPARENTLY, The 17 Parkland Lives Lost Are Worth Less Than Fertilized Eggs

Gun control and abortion are two different debates. Stop combining them.

As we have all heard by now, a man brutally murdered 17 innocent lives in Parkland, Florida on Valentine’s Day. The tragic mass shooting has sparked a plethora of gun control debate across the nation. It also, somehow, managed to bring up the topic of abortion.

As someone who is pro-choice and pro-gun, I certainly have philosophies that resonate with people from all political parties.

Throughout the past three weeks, I have seen countless posts declaring that “you can’t talk about gun control until you are outraged about how many children are murdered by Planned Parenthood.”

Can we just acknowledge the amount of stupidity in that statement right there?

You can’t mourn the loss of 17 innocent children who were murdered on Valentine’s Day until you are pro-life. You can’t have an opinion on gun control until you are pro-life.

In addition to countless photos circulating on the internet, I've seen people go out of their way to use this as an argument - as if it's a strong argument.

As someone who is both pro-gun ownership and pro-choice, I find these claims circulating on social media to be absolutely absurd. If you are really THAT naive to disregard the 17 lives ended far too soon, and turn the debate to abortion, you need to do some thinking.

Here’s an example: You are in an abortion clinic and a mass shooter walks in. You have the opportunity to make it to the door, get out safely, and to save one of the following two options.

You can save a 4-year-old child from this mass shooter. Or you could save 100+ fertilized eggs ready for implantation. You cannot save both. Which are you going to choose?

Seriously think about that for a minute. Don’t give me any “I would NEVER be in an abortion clinic.” or “Why would a 4-year-old be in a clinic?” Just thinking about your options for a minute.

Who are you going to save?

If you choose the 4-year-old child, as I’d expect most rational people to do, then you’re admitting that the life of a child who is already here is worth more than a fertilized egg. That they are a real person.

If you choose the embryos, then shame on you. You are so stuck in your ways that you would actually let a 4-year-old child die to prove your point.

I am all for gun ownership. BUT, I recognize that people have qualified and well supported opposing opinions. If you root against gun ownership and are pro-choice, keep on keepin’ on.

It is more difficult to get an abortion in this country than it is to buy a gun.

But according to some people, you can't want stricter gun control if you don't want to eradicate abortion completely.

Abortion is a tricky subject, but if you really think someone’s opinions are less valid simply because they support a procedure that you disagree with, you need to do some thinking. ESPECIALLY, if that procedure has NOTHING to do with the issue at hand.

Abortion has absolutely nothing to do with gun ownership - so why are you bringing it up? I understand that it makes you feel like your opinions are more valid, but it does not help your argument to say “You can’t be upset about school shootings if you don’t mourn the loss of babies at Planned Parenthood.”

It makes you sound horrible. You’re seriously going to say that the lives of underdeveloped fertilized eggs are worth the same amount, if not more, than 17 young lives who were taken too soon?

I get that you want to argue a point, but arguing for guns by using abortion as a defense is a horrible tactic. It illustrates how uneducated about the topic you really are and it shows that you care more about your guns than 17 children who were actually here.

I will forever be pro-gun ownership, but I will never say that you can’t oppose gun ownership while supporting a woman’s choice. A living, breathing child who was shot to death in a school should weigh more heavily on you than a fertilized egg.

I am sorry to say, but despite my avid love of guns, I would rather rally for the children who were murdered than fertilized eggs.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
