Summer of 2018 means a couple of things. New music, new opportunities, and changes for many people. That would be including Panic! At The Disco. Last year, Brendon Urie and his band rose to fame with their 2016 album entitled "Death of A Bachelor." The single "Death Of A Bachelor" is what brought them back into the spotlight. After countless nominations and performances, they had a chance to settle into their new sound.
New sound? Yes, they have a new sound.
If you think back to 2005, "A Fever You Can't Sweat" brought Brendon into the spotlight for the controversial song "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." Which said the line," God d*mn door," which many considered a huge thing in the music industry. Often on TV or on radio, taking the Lord's name in vain was considered a huge controversy.
We then go his sophomore album, "Pretty. Odd." which took on a whole new sound. A more whimsical sound and a more care-free sound. In the music videos, we see people walking around with TV's on their heads, circus-like dances in the street, and the feeling of care-free peace in what music he made.
With the three albums before "Pray For The Wicked," we heard one distinct sound throughout the entire album. However, his newest album has a large amount of variety. The "Roaring 20s" takes you to the beats of jazz and swing while "Old Fashioned" brings you to more of a pop and hip-hop sound. Also, this story also shows the story of Brendon coming into his fame and what the spotlight can do to someone. Examples of that can be found in "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" and "One Of The Drunks" which show the uglier sides of fame.
This album shows a growth in this band and especially their lead singer. It's exciting to follow this artist through his entire growth. I am proud to call myself a fan of Panic! At The Disco and this is my favorite album of their's to this day.
