With the start of summer, everyone thinks about their summer plans and tans. Starting by laying out on Oval Beach, students start preparing for the summer the second it gets warm. For those people who are super pale, there are some experiences that really define the summer. You spend a lot of time making sure that you can avoid all of them, but inevitably every one of these happens.

1. Applying so much sunscreen you feel like you're spreading icing on a cake.

The best way to avoid burning is to put on sunscreen. If you're pale, applying copious amounts of sunscreen before going outside for long periods of time is non-negotiable.

2. The first burn of the summer is a big moment.

The first burn of the summer is a rite of passage. It shows you that if you didn't put on sunscreen, you need to. If you did put on sunscreen, it's a reminder that this summer will be another one of you being pale.

3. Being the palest in the friend group, no matter what.

Unless you surround yourself with equally pale people, you will always be the palest one and the one that stands out in the pictures. Even if you are friends with other pale people, someone is always the palest, so you might not even escape it then.

4. Avoiding the sun like the plague.

Sometimes it's just easier to stay inside and not in a bathing suit so people don't notice how pale you are. At least there's no way to accidentally get burned inside.

5. Constantly applying more sunscreen.

Has it been more than two hours and you're outside still? You need to apply more sunscreen. Don't trust the sun or your old sunscreen, because they will betray you.

6. We burn. Quickly and badly.

Some people can lay outside for hours and have the best natural tan. You are not one of those people, and you will most definitely walk away from the nice day outside with a burn.

7. And, that burn does NOT turn into a tan.

For some people, they turn red and then a few days later, they have a tan. For you, it's just back to white and looking like you haven't stepped outside all summer.

8. Summer is not our favorite season.

Winter is more your speed, and can anyone really blame you? So long as you still try and enjoy summer, your sweaters will be waiting to cover your pale skin in the winter, too.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
