Following a season in which the Green Bay Packers failed to make the playoffs for the first time since Aaron Rodgers' first year as starting quarterback in 2008, major offseason change for the first time in a long time has occurred. After many years of stability among the trio of general manager Ted Thompson, head coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Dom Capers, two of the three are no longer in their positions. Thompson has transitioned into a different role in the Packers organization, and Capers was fired by McCarthy. Also leaving are the team is offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett, quarterback coach Alex Van Pelt, wide receivers coach Luke Getsy and defensive coaches Mike Trgovac and Scott McCurley, after McCarthy made the decision to fire or they left for other positions. It is of course left to be seen whether these changes will lead to the team's Super Bowl aspirations, but these changes have been perceived as positives among the green and gold faithful.

Defensive Coordinator: Mike Pettine

The former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills DC, and Cleveland Browns head coach, has been tapped to lead the Packer's defense after Dom Capers was fired following nine seasons under Mike McCarthy. Pettine comes in with an impressive pedigree, as in his five seasons as defensive coordinator with the Jets and Bills, the teams were ranked as top ten defensive units, including a number one finish in yards and points in his first year with the Rex Ryan coached Jets.

"He’ll be the best coordinator in the league; that’s how good he is,” Ryan told ESPN's Rob Demovsky. Pettine's willingness to change formations and packages to maximize his players could be a fresh change for the somewhat stagnant Capers' defenses.

Former Packers CB Tramon Williams, who played under Pettine in Cleveland, also had high praise, noting his ability to confuse offenses and keep them off balance.

Pettine comes in ready to lead a Packers defense that has been underwhelming, but has talent on every level. Veterans Mike Daniels, Nick Perry and Morgan Burnett, supported by young players like Kenny Clark, Blake Martinez, Kevin King and Damarious Randall could take the next step towards elite defense status, especially if new general manager Brian Gutekunst is able to find some supporting talent in the draft and free agency.

Offensive Coordinator: Joe Philbin

Philbin makes his return to Green Bay as OC, after leaving for a short stint as the Miami Dolphins head coach starting in 2012 and ending in early 2015. The Dolphins offense improved under Philbin, but the team was only 28-24 during his run. After being let go, Philbin was the offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts for the last two seasons, before returning to the team he won Super Bowl XLV with.

In Philbin's previous run as OC for the Packers from 2007-2011, the Packers were among the best offenses in the league, ranking in the top ten in yards and points each season. Philibin helps to bring stability to an offense and team that has seen many changes this offseason. Rodgers has had high praise for his former OC, and comfortability among the QB and coordinator was obviously a priority in McCarthy's hiring.

McCarthy will remain the team's play-caller, and Philibin will have the opportunity to coach some of the league's best in Rodgers, Davante Adams and David Bakhtiari. Philibin will look to help find a balance between the team's elite pass attack, and the emerging run game led by last year's promising rookies Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams.

General Manager: Brian Gutekunst

Gutekunst joined the Packers in 1998 as a scout under the legendary Ron Wolf. From 2002-2016, he was the director of college scouting, and was promoted to director of player personnel from 2016-18. Gutekunst beat out internal candidates Eliot Wolf, son of Ron, and Russ Ball for the job vacated by Ted Thompson. Ball was promoted to director of football operations, while Wolf took a job under former Packer executive John Dorsey in Cleveland.

Gutekunst takes the reigns of a Packer's team hungry for a Super Bowl title, and will be the man, with help from Thompson and Ball, deciding who the Packers will select with the team's 14th overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The Packers will likely look to bolster the defense in the draft with an edge pass rusher such as LSU's Arden Key or Clemson's Clelin Ferrell, but a new general manager provides the opportunity for draft-day surprise. The Packers draft and develop mentality has led them to one of the best records in the league under Thompson's run as GM, but Gutekunst looks to be more active in free agency.

Many have criticized Thompson's unwillingness to sign high-profile free agents, something that could change under the newly hired 44 year-old GM. In his introductory press conference, Gutekunst said that "no stone would be left unturned" in player acquisition.

Quarterbacks Coach: Frank Cignetti

Cignetti and McCarthy have brief coaching experience together, both at the University of Pittsburgh and New Orleans Saints. The 56 year-old Cignetti has been coaching in college and the pros since 1989, and is likely been brought in to further the development of backup QB Brett Hundley. The quarterback coach for the Packers is an enviable position, as Rodgers is perhaps the most self-sufficient and valuable player in the league.

Wide Receivers Coach: Jim Hostler

Hostler rejoins Mike McCarthy, as Hostler was hired as QB coach when McCarthy became the offensive coordinator in San Francisco, replacing Luke Getsy who moved on as the offensive coordinator for Mississippi State. Hostler has 18 years of NFL experience in a variety of positions including QB, WR, TE coach for seven teams and took over the offensive coordinator position for the 49ers when McCarthy left.

The Packers still have several positions to fill on the defensive side, as defensive line coach Mike Trgovac and inside linebackers coach Scott McCurley were fired with Capers and spots have not yet been filled.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
