As finals approach and the year is coming to a close we have a lot to think about and a lot to plan for.
How do we best study for that exam? What are we going to do for the holidays? What are my plans for next year? The list could go on.
All the things that we have to do tend to overwhelm our minds and we start overthinking not only about the biggest things but by the tiniest things in life. If overthinking was a profession, well, I'd sure be great at it.
However, as much as we tend to overthink, we are the only ones who can control how we allow our thoughts to be processed. Although I'm still trying to figure this out and probably won't figure out how to control my stress and how I overanalyzing things, I'm slowly figuring out types of ways that I can possibly calm down my mind.
Whether you have your own forms of handling your stress that may have a negative or positive impact, it doesn't hurt to try out different, healthy forms of handling your thoughts. Even though adults or very spiritual-like people may say that it's easy to handle situations that may seem minuscule to them, it's still a process. And the road to figuring out how to calm your mind takes time, but I do believe that you can slowly release the negative in order to bring out the positives.
Some ways to handle overanalyzing comes in all forms.
1. Make a list of all you need to do or write down all the thoughts going on through your mind. (It can be very cathartic)
2. Talk to someone you trust or you feel will give you straight answers and won't beat around the bush about things.
3. Listen to calm music. There's nothing like letting go to your favorite genre or song.
4. Go outside. Staying inside can probably do more harm than good.
5. Sit in silence. This sounds so boring, but don't interact with anyone or anything.
6. Along with #5, try to stay away from technology. Our world is becoming so wrapped into the virtual world that we forget real life.
Although these are just some of the ways to not let your mind overwhelm you, they can be a start. As you're reading this, you can come to me to talk or even comment some ways you handle overthinking.
Good luck on finals, your holiday events, and the upcoming new year!
