An article written in November of 2013 was published in the Daily Mississippian. It was entitled, "Oversized shirts, leggings, and colored Nikes." You can read the article here.
I don't know about you, but I am 100% the girl described in this article. Want to know a secret? I do not care.
He then continues by saying, "Can we get one thing straight? That does not look good on you. You-yes, you- do not look good wearing this." Well, I guess that it's a good thing that we don't get up in the morning and think, "Hmmm, I wonder what outfit the men of Ole Miss want to see today?"
I know the rules of "dressing for success." Which is why, usually on test days, I do wear makeup, straighten my hair, and maybe even put on a shirt that doesn't scream my sorority letters.
I'm also aware that I only have four years to dress in "an oversized shirt or sweatshirt worn in a dress-like fashion with $9.99 leggings and neon-colored Nikes or Uggs." It has nothing to do with "self respect." It's about being comfortable. Considering that everyone's classes are spread all across campus, it's only practical to be in tennis shoes and shorts. Duh?
It was also implied that professors cannot see you as a professional and won't give you a good recommendation if you are dressed in this. I don't know about all majors, but in mine, I have been able to build wonderful relationships with my professors despite my everyday outfits. In fact, I'm pretty sure they're more concerned with their students actually being in class than if I'm in an oversized shirt.
In just a few short months I will have to dress for the Real World and put on real pants and a real blouse. But until I walk across the stage and receive my diploma, you can find in my t-shirt dress.
