It's that time of year: cold and flu season. As a nanny of a kid that goes to preschool, I'm constantly washing my hands and trying to dodge snotty hands. But it's impossible to avoid all germs, so here are my tips to feeling better quicker:
(Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor)
1. Vitamin C
Drink as much orange juice as you can stand, stock up on vitamin C supplements, and find yourself some orange gummies. Trust me, it helps.
2. Soup
Chicken noodle soup filled with vegetables not only helps your throat feel better, but the veggies are filled with tons of nutrients to make your immune system stronger.
3. Hot tea with honey
If you have a cough or scratchy throat, the honey helps coat your throat and prevents coughing.
4. Sleep
Sleep lets your body rest and rebuild. Use your illness as an excuse to nap the day away ;)
5. Essential oils
I'm new to the essential oil kick, so I can't claim to be an expert on it. But check here to see what's available! For pre-made products, check out Hawks Homestead on Etsy!
6. Pain reliever/fever reducer
I usually take a generic form of ibuprofen for any illness-related aches and pains, and it helps reduce any fever.
7. Humidifier
If you're having difficulty breathing or your throat is scratchy, eyes are runny, or nose is stuffy, invest in a humidifier. It'll help you sleep easier, and breathe easier during the day.
8. Cough syrup
If I'm sick, I usually stick to DayQuil or NyQuil. Before starting any medication, double check with your doctor to make sure it's right for you!
Don't succumb to your illnesses; fight back and enjoy your winter months!
