Stir The Stir-Crazy With These Unique Ways To Overcome Quarantine Boredom

COVID-19 has forced states in The United States to enact a rule that all citizens must stay inside, unless there is an "essential" reason to be out and about. Now, I bet that everyone has at least said this once in their life, "I wish I didn't have to go outside and that I could spend every day inside." But now people are being faced with a harsh reality. The harsh reality is that bingeing Netflix and staying inside gets old after a week. I agree that it's fun once in a while to stay inside and have a lazy day, but being forced to do it every day takes its toll. Especially since it's been multiple weeks of forced isolation. All of my friends' biggest problem that they are facing with this quarantine is boredom, which isn't always the easiest to fix. Hopefully these following activities can help you escape the boredom, like they've helped my friends and I:

1. Exercise

There are many great apps and YouTube videos that you can use. Exercising is not only good for your health, but it's a great way to cure boredom, too. One app that I recommend is Workout Women. You can choose different areas of focus and the type of exercises you want to do. They have jumping, cardio, high intensity, and yoga exercises. The best thing about it is that most of them are just seven minutes, but they burn a lot of calories.

2. Facetime Friends And Family

This week was the first time I did a video chat with some of my sorority sisters. It definitely took away my boredom. It's also refreshing to be able to look at and talk with people that I'm not quarantined with. We played hang man and watched movies. There are many different apps that will give friends an opportunity to interact, like Words with Friends.

3. Play Board Games

Go old school and play some board games with the family. Watching TV or Netflix gets a bit draining, which is why playing board games can be a nice breather. It's also entertaining, especially if your family is very competitive. Games like Monopoly, Life, Charades, cards, and even Heads-Up are easier to buy and a lot of fun. Or, challenge your family to less-commonly-played games like Dominos or Mahjong.

4. Find New, Fun Ways To Enjoy Food

Most people have been spending this quarantine munching away. Fun Fact: Girl Scouts are doing online ordering to your home. But instead of sitting on the couch bingeing food and shows, have a picnic inside or outside. It's a nice activity that can be done with the family.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
