The holiday season is wrapping up and now we’re stuck with a dilemma: how to make room for the amazing gifts we've received from loved ones! From clothes to accessories to knick knacks and room decorations, it's time to say “Out with the old, and in with the new!”
1. Sell Them
Nowadays there are lots of ways to sell your things from the comfort of your own home. Most areas have a Facebook group (or several!) that can give you a way to sell your things to locals--just post a picture, a few details, and a price, and wait! This is great because you can sell anything: clothes, furniture, accessories--all of it!
Another great option for clothes and accessories is the app Poshmark. It's incredibly easy to use, and for the seller, shipping is free!
2. Donate them
Donating is always an option, especially if you just want to drop off your old things and be done with them. Goodwill is always a good option for household things, old toys, and clothes. Many times local shelters and schools take clothing donations--if you want to be sure your clothes and shoes will go to good use, check these sorts of places.
3. Consignment
Consignment is like the best parts of selling and donating. Take your old clothes, shoes, and accessories to a local consignment store and drop off your gently-used clothing--from there, they buy clothes from you and then sell them in their store! Note that they only take what is most likely to sell, which means brand names and in-season items; and typically you'll get less than you would if you sold them yourself. But, if you're looking for a way to get a little money and get your clothes, shoes, and accessories off your hands, this is a great choice.
4. Hand them off
Chances are you know someone similar to your size that would be interested in some of your clothes! Have them come over sometime and choose what they like, and donate the rest. Easy-Peasy!
5. Upcycling
Pinterest is chock-full of ideas to upcycle those old clothes. Can't sew? That's fine! There are lots of no-sew options. Turn that cute old band tee into a bag. Got a new pair of jeans that look a lot like a pair you already have? Use sandpaper or bleach on the old pair to give it a distressed or acid-washed look.
