Our Unique Cats

Cats usually keep to themselves and sleep most of the day, not my cats.

Most cats love to lay around and sleep most of the day. Not my cat, Sophie. She is five years old, a calico, and very playful. She loves to cuddle and have treats. One of the most fascinating things I love about her is she steals my hair ties. It is fascinating because she loves for me to throw them, so she can fetch them and bring them back to me. Usually, she does this when I am in the middle of doing my school work she will look at me and meow, letting me know she wants to play. I get up and flick a hair tie out of our room into the kitchen or living room and she races after it. As she does, I try to read my required reading for the week or type up an assignment to turn in until she returns with the hair tie to my feet. This can continue to happen for about twenty times or so, depending on Sophie’s mood. I would never have thought my cat would play fetch, but she does. She is practicing her hunting skills in the process. After a while of playing fetch, she joins my husband and I in our bed to lay down. She enjoys it when we pet her.

My other cat, Jupiter, is an indoor and outdoor cat, who is tiger striped grey and black. He enjoys his time inside away from the weather, but he also loves the freedom of going outside. He enjoys his time outside by killing squirrels, mice and he even killed a mole. He will bring them up to the door to be sure we see it the next time we open the door. One morning, I woke up and brought our dogs out to their pen outside, so they could use the restroom. I was barefoot, and I stepped on a mouse he had killed. I quickly put the dogs in their pen and rushed inside to tell my husband what had happened. He laughed at me. When he comes inside after killing a mouse, we will give him a can of tuna. I would much rather Jupiter kill the mouse, instead of it getting in the house.

The one cat, I will never forget, is our first cat Chipper. We originally named him Skye, since we thought he was a girl, but once we found out he was a boy we changed his name. When we first got him, he could fit in the palm of our hands. He had tiger looking stripes on the top of him, and spots like a Bengal cat on his stomach. He would randomly sit up in the middle of the room on his butt. Not leaning against anything with his paw covering his private area. He was like a human. Unfortunately, he died when he was just three years old. He had medical issues that caused him to suffer, so we had to put him down. Chipper will always be in our hearts, and there is not a day that passes I do not miss him. Rest in peace sweet baby boy.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
