Calling all book lovers and wine enthusiasts — Barnes and Noble announced that they’d be introducing wine into their food menu in select locations. What’s better than cozying up with a new book and a glass of merlot? Not many things. They will begin testing these new menu items (wine and beer) within the next year, and the first B&N to open their doors to wine enthusiasts will be their location in Eastchester, New York. After that first test location, they plan to open three more in California, Minnesota, and Virginia. So, in honor of this exciting expansion, I’ve created a short list of the best wine and book genre pairings.
Genre: Horror.
Type: Red, Malbec.
Usually described as firm and bold, it makes a good fit for the suspenseful horror novels sitting on the shelves just waiting to be picked up.
Genre: Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
Type: White, Pinot Grigio.
Crisp and tart, Pinot will give you enough flavor to appreciate the wine, but won’t distract you from the story’s plot.
Genre: Crime/Mystery.
Type: Red, Sangiovese.
Sangiovese is wine known to hold a smokey flavor, perfect for the setting within these mystery books, usually a smokey room or type of cigarette is found within the book.
Genre: Romance.
Type: Rose, Zinfandel.
A still blush wine would go great with the smooth and soft romance of a particular novel, and as the plot line thickens, your cheeks will turn the same shade as the wine.
Genre: Humor.
Type: Sparkling Moscato.
The bubbles in this sparkling wine will be quite fitting for the type of bubbly humor found inside the book.
Genre: Self Help.
Type: White, Riesling.
Flat and tart, it’ll help you be able to focus more on the writing of the book and reflect on your own personal life as opposed to a deep red that demands attention.
