Oprah, I Love You, But Don't Run For President

We need someone else, but it can't be you.

I love Oprah. I do. Her rousing, triumphant, moving speech at the Golden Globes left me with tear-stained cheeks and feeling absolutely inspired. There's no doubt that those words surpass anything we have ever heard or will ever hear from our sitting president. Oprah Winfrey is an incredible woman, a strong orator, and a complete and utter success.

But she CANNOT be our next president.

It's true: the White House is lacking in many aspects of what we want to see in our leader. Passion, optimism, focus, honesty, integrity, humility. (Believe me, I know that the list goes on). But what else are we lacking?

Experience.

Oprah fits all the categories except the one that seems to truly matter. The Democratic Party simply cannot afford to stoop so low as to get behind someone who is as inexperienced as the person it spends all its time campaigning against.

I am not defending Donald Trump. But as we complain about our current administration, shouldn't we be looking to restore what the White House once was? A place for serious, hardworking, intelligent politicians, not celebrities.

Last week in The New York Times, Thomas Chatterton Williams said: "If liberals no longer pride themselves on being the adults in the room...our national descent into chaos will be complete.

If the first year of the Trump administration has made anything clear, it’s that experience, knowledge, education and political wisdom matter tremendously. ..The presidency is not a reality show, or for that matter, a talk show."

Yes, in all technicality, she could run. We already elected a TV show host once, so how about we try it again but with someone who possesses more than two brain cells and doesn't look like a burnt cheeto? Logically, it makes sense.

However, the reality of it all is that Oprah Winfrey just gave an incredible speech. She called out the injustices in our country and society and then proceeded to instill hope into the hearts of every American watching.

She did what we wished our elected leader would do. But that doesn't make her eligible to be our next president; it only solidifies the notion that our current president isn't doing his job very well.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
