Boston,
There is a reason why people say they are from "Boston" instead of Massachusetts, and it's because you are the best city in the world and make everyone feel at home no matter where they live in the state.
You were my home for my entire childhood, and I always enjoyed being a city kid. Except, I never felt like a city kid, because you felt more like a hometown than an actual city. I would always run into familiar faces everywhere I went, and the community was always so welcoming and inclusive. But just because you a smaller city in size compared to New York City, doesn't mean that you are any less vibrant. There are so many colleges and college-aged students in the city, and you always had plenty of attractions to offer. From the rich history on almost every corner, and the incredible sports atmosphere, to the amazing food and places to shop, I never felt overwhelmed or lost... I just knew this is where I belonged.
From the Patriots winning the Super Bowl XLIX, to the 2013 Boston Marathon, we have had our fair share of ups and downs. But the Boston community always remains tight knit no matter what, and we never give up hope. Us Bostonians always strive to be the best we can be, and we never lose our pride. (Even if that means bringing up Tom Brady in almost any possible conversation.)
But even though you were my home, I still knew I had to leave. I knew that the world had so many other beautiful places to offer, and I felt I would regret it if I stayed in the city for college. I had to go out of my comfort zone. But I know that I will find my way back to the city eventually, whether that's in four years or ten, because I know that people who grow up in Boston always find their way back. Although I miss you a lot, (especially Dunkin Donuts on a regular basis, and being able to say 'wicked' without getting laughed at), I will never regret leaving because that makes me appreciate coming home even more.
So thank you for the memories. This is not a "goodbye" but a "see you later."
