I wrote this poem for my dad because he does so much and never gets the credit he deserves. Dad, you truly are one of a kind. You've always helped make my dreams become reality and I will always be thankful. It's hard being so far away from you. You were always my better half and now I feel like I'm missing a part of me. I know you're happy for me for following my dreams, but being away from you has truly been the hardest part of college. I love you lots. Thank you for everything.
It's hard growing up.
Knowing that each year I won't get to see you as much kills me.
But it's something we both knew would happen,
I guess what I failed to realize is how fast it comes.
I love you, Dad.
You've been my best friend since day one.
You showed me Skyrim and Marvel- two of my favorite things in the whole world...
Besides you, of course.
I can't wait until I'm older and have children so I can teach them all the things you taught me...
How to be brave,
How to have fun,
And most importantly, how to love.
I can't wait to tell them stories about our many adventures.
Like when we got matching tattoos,
Or when we went across the world.
It feels like only yesterday you were taking me to my road test.
You blared Carless Whisper and DMX to calm my nerves...
While I awkwardly yelled at seagulls in the parking lot of Meijer.
I still can't wrap up a burrito like you can,
And I don't think I'll ever master that skill.
But that's okay...because I still need you.
Just because I'm growing up doesn't mean I don't need you anymore.
It just means that I can handle being on my own,
Because you taught me how to handle things on my own.
I owe everything to you. I wouldn't be anywhere if it wasn't for you.
I try my best to be good, I know sometimes I fail, but know that I appreciate everything you do.
You're not just my dad, but my best friend.
Thank you for everything. I love you so much.
And to all the other daughters in the world,
Give your dad a big hug.
Time goes by fast- too fast in my eyes.
Cherish all the moments,
The laughs,
The cries,
Everything.
Laugh at his jokes,
No matter how lame they are.
Remember that your dad loves you.
No matter how many times you've messed up.
Or how little you speak.
Your dad loves you,
No matter what.
